Your post totally made me flash back to an episode of The X-Files where Mulder and Scully pretend to be husband and wife in order to investigate disappearances in a community. The community had some sort of sewage monster that would eat people who were in violation of the association's code. I'm guessing that your neighborhood does not have a people-eating sewage monster since the HOA had time to send you a note saying you were in violation before you got eaten.
