I feel very comforted to know that I live in a very safe, problem-free complex. It's a great feeling. I was reminded of this fact today, when I got a very official-looking note from the HOA, warning me that if I continued to be 'in violation' of the Association's code, they would need to take further action against me. My offense? I currently do not have a "globe" for my front porch light. Damn! It's comforting to know that, if this is a big concern to them, my neighborhood must be in pretty good shape! Wooohoo.

you should totally get a real globe, complete with land masses and oceans and all, for your porch light. They make light-up ones! Or, you could use glass paint and paint a globe on a simple glass sphere and use that over your light.

If they want a "globe", I say give them one! Heck, the light-cover use of the term "globe" is the second definition, whereas a sphere representing a planet is the first! If they wish to pick nits, I'd say you have the upper hand on that one. :)

worth noting -- I'd never get a house somewhere where I had to sign on to a HOA agreement. Way I see it, long as I'm not causing damage my neighbors have no right to tell me what I can or can not do on *my* property. We have laws for everything they should be concerned with.

Even a planet other than our own would still fall under this definition. If he wanted to make their heads explode, he could model it after Pluto. Since it is no-longer an actual planet, then it wouldn't TECHNICALLY be a globe, from a certain perspective. The litigating arguments would RULE!

Your post totally made me flash back to an episode of The X-Files where Mulder and Scully pretend to be husband and wife in order to investigate disappearances in a community. The community had some sort of sewage monster that would eat people who were in violation of the association's code. I'm guessing that your neighborhood does not have a people-eating sewage monster since the HOA had time to send you a note saying you were in violation before you got eaten.

Maybe you should tell them to look into that...

So, basically, they want you to ditch the security screen door. That's much safer than a broken globe.

Personally, I would have thought that replacing a broken/missing globe on a porch light would have fallen under "Exterior Building Maintenance" making it their problem, not yours! Painting, roofing, and siding rapairs are their responsibility, what about exterior lighting? Time to dig out those HOA bylaws and see if its even your responsibility.

Take further action? What was the first action, a note? I'd like to see what the further action is, actually.

Dude. Go and get the fucking ugliest globe you can find (probably the one you'd like best because it will be cheap). I keed, I keed. Seriously, I LOVE your outdoor lighting, it is great for me to POOP on!

Sorry to hear that....good thing is you don't really have to get rid of the screen. You just need to change it around.
